I knew where I needed to be when I saw her sitting there. Clearly, I was not there. I will never claim to know much about wildlife behavior. I’m trying to learn, but there is so much I need to learn. There are things though that you can pretty clearly see if you just watch for a little bit. As I approached, I could clearly see she was pointed away from me a just chilling while another photographer watched on. I knew that eventually, she would decide that she wanted to relocate and when she did, she was going to take off the direction she was pointed.
I decided to stop and chat with the other photographer though, and just barely caught her taking off. Just as expected, she flew away from me. The good news is that I at least caught this image, even if it’s nothing special. I also met and chatted with another photographer which is fun and a bit out of character for me. I generally just kinda go do my thing and avoid people. I don’t dislike people; I usually just show up, try to blend in and do my thing. Heck, I even enjoy chatting about how to do something better (whether it’s me offering or taking advice).
The best advice I would have given myself for this image, know where you need to be and be there. Then, go chat with the other photographers after you get your shot. I knew she wasn’t going to be there very long and I should have worked to get this shot first before socializing. Next winter I guess
