Stories About Real Events

My experience in photojournalism is still growing, but the assignments I’ve covered have reinforced that I have the skill, instinct, and storytelling focus needed for this work. From a presidential rally to protests and community events, I approach every moment with the goal of creating images that carry clarity, context, and emotion.

Harris/Walz Campaign rally in Milwaukee

On August 20th, 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris held a campaign rally in Milwaukee, WI during her run for president. I was granted a press pass for the event—my first assignment of this scale—and it became a defining moment in my development as a photojournalist.

Covering the rally meant adapting quickly: navigating press restrictions, working in dense crowds, and anticipating moments amid fast-moving activity. I approached the night with a focus on connection, aiming to document not just the candidate, but the relationship between the community and the campaign.

One of my favorite frames from the night shows a young girl sitting on her father’s shoulders, watching the stage with complete focus. Moments like that reveal the human side of political events—where policy meets personal impact. That night reinforced my commitment to telling stories that highlight those intersections.

You can read more about that night here.

Protest at the Wisconsin Capitol

Shortly after the election results came in for the 2024 presidential election, protests sprung up across the country. I ventured down to the Wisconsin State Capitol during one of those protests. Hundreds of people braved the cold and windy afternoon to make their opinions known. Opinions were plentiful, and the passion behind them more so. Surprisingly, there were few counter protesters present.

Topics ranged from protecting our planet, to LGBTQ rights, and simply following the law. The passion present that day was clear from the signs, the shouting, and the frequent use of the PA system that was placed on the capitol steps. While it was clear that most everyone was angry for whatever valid reason they had, everyone was also very pleasant. Some, maybe a little eccentric, but still a caring group of people that day.

One thing that is becoming harder is capturing events while trying to stay neutral. My job isn’t to take sides, it’s to document the events. Read more about that here.
